You’ve probably read about widgets and whatchamacallits. Gadgets, gizmos, and contraptions may do important work. Doodads, doohickeys, and thingamajigs can be perfect for the job.
With all these things, what do we have? Nothing that forms a clear picture.
That’s the problem with “things.” They don’t tell us anything.
A fancy word for a thing is worth nothing.
Whenever you’ve written the word “thing,” “object,” or “item,” try to replace it with a specific, descriptive noun.
