Where do great original ideas come from? Sometimes they rise from the rubble of bad ideas. Julia Cameron says, “Some of the best creative work gets done on the days when you feel that everything you’re doing is just plain junk.”
Writer’s block comes from rejecting all the bad thoughts as you wait for the perfect inspirational thought. That problem is quickly solved by writing whatever bad thoughts come to mind. Great ideas come from having lots of ideas.
Dwight Swain says, “Don’t just hope for ideas. Hunt them down!” So if necessity is the mother of invention, we should create more necessities.
Keep writing until you reach that aha! moment where the gold nugget surfaces. Then you can discard the rubbish and publish a masterpiece.
