Marketing Toolbox

April 2024

Hi Authors!

I hope your spring is delightful. Meanwhile, our Roaring Lambs library continues to grow. If you haven’t stopped by the library in a while, by all means come check out what is new at THIS LINK.

Now that you have the three essential points of your marketing foundation, let’s dig a little deeper into what you can be doing to keep these pieces active and working for you.

This month, focus on your newsletter. Ideally, you are sending a newsletter to your readers monthly – at the very least. Even if you don’t have a book release or a salle, your readers will want to hear about you and about life.

So when you’re writing a newsletter, be sure to have a balance between your message and your life. If you’ve written an inspirational book or a devotional, include something of your topic in each letter. In addition, include something personal, like a recent event or story, to the letter. If you can connect the topic with your story, mores the better!

If you’ve written a memoir, your “topic” is more like something of the theme of your book. And add a personal vignette that isn’t included in your book.

If you write fiction, it’s a little more difficult. You definitely want to build a personal story, but deliver it with the same voice as your story.

In fact, no matter what type of book you have, match your letter to your voice.

  • Is your book heartwarming, then share your personal story in the same manner – poignant and touching.
  • Is it more serious and academic, then deliver your personal story with all the facts and details clearly spelled out.
  • Does it have a humorous tone, then tell your story in such a way to give your readers a monthly laugh. Humor is a plus no matter what type of writing you do.

And if your writing to a Christian audience, be sure to share something of your spiritual walk or something you’ve recently learned from the Lord.

We’ll talk more about this in future letters, but if you haven’t reached out to your audience through your newsletter, go ahead and tell them what this week held for you. And whatever you share, be sure to reciprocate, asking your readers about their weeks. Give them an email so they can respond. You can always set up a new one at AuthorYourName@gmail.com if you want to keep your personal email personal.
