“Magic” is what we call the observable but unexplainable. Like writers who can use only a few ordinary words to create an extraordinary picture of a thunderstorm—so vivid that you wish you’d brought your umbrella. You feel the cold water droplets as your clothes begin to stick to your skin.
Writers create images of reality, either as it is, as we fear it might be, or as we wish it would be. Our best stories provide education, entertainment, and escape.
