People read for education, escape, or entertainment. Write a story that has all three and you have something just about anybody would want to read.
Whether fiction or nonfiction, your story needs to be true-to-life. To make it believable and memorable, we must follow the emotional journey of a character facing obstacles in pursuit of an important goal.
Cheryl St.John says, “Believable, memorable characters are complicated combinations of pride and vulnerabilities, appealing mixes of dashing and determined exteriors with hurts, hopes, and dreams—like yours.”
Just telling what happened is boring. We must choose just the right words to give readers the feeling of being there.
